August 2010

Boy is it Hot!!!!!!  Hope everyone is staying cool. It’s hot and thick. Please treat yourselves well and drink plenty of fluids.

Speaking of over doing it, last month was the National Convention in Orlando, where a number of folks, over did it, if you know what I mean. Yours truly didn’t. But Betty and I did nave a good time. We met a lot of great people. I learned a lot. Probably the best thing that I learned was that we are a top notch lodge with a lot going for us.  It’s interesting how many lodges are struggling with some of the same problems. While I know we cannot all be perfect and I never wish problems for any lodge it made me proud to walk away from most conversations knowing that we are doing better because we have outstanding members who are willing to step up and do the hard work necessary to be successful. Thanks to each and every one of you.

Speaking of stepping up; I understand that the 4th of July party and open house was a great success ( Betty and I were at the National ) Thanks to all those who put in time and treasure, there was good food, good music and lots of laughs. We may have attracted some new members and that is always a good thing. Thanks to all of you who made it possible.

Another great Steak Shoot !!!! It just keeps getting bigger and better. It’s a load of fun and I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to come down and partake. Come and have a little something to eat and try to win some excellent meat for another dinner later.

My usual Plea for new members. Simply put—-WE NEED SOME. Please send in some applications so we can build up the membership. We are way behind and need to be more active in recruiting. Things are going to be very busy in August. It would be a very good time to bring a friend to the lodge and introduce them. Let them see how much fun we have raising money for the kids.

Speaking of a busy August. This bulletin is full of things going on. A couple of BIG items. This month is our Annual Golf Tournament. We need golfers and sponsors. Please suppor t this activity. Also, we will be having our Annual District Vice President’s Visitation on the 28th. This is always a good time. Please get your ticket early and have good food and some fun.

Finally, I want to take a little space to acknowledge a very important event this month. It is the introduction of the newly formatted Bulletin. Most people probably don’t give it another thought when they read this Bulletin each month, but it takes a lot of work to put it together. For a number of years the same member has been doing it and a darn good job of it. That person was Chris Fafard ( and yes Chris we know that Becky is the real brains and worker behind it but we won’t tell )  This month, the bulletin was redesigned and put together by Martha Jurek. It should be obvious it took a lot of work. We hope that she keeps up the great work. Thanks to Chris and Becky, for all you have done and continue to do for our lodge and Elkdom. Thanks, Martha for all you and Tim do as well.

Stand Tall,
